Workmanship that’s Backed by a Formal Education
The biggest difference between a landscape architect and designer is that a landscape architect must be licensed by the state to legally identify as such. This means that the landscape architects at Terrain Planning and Design have achieved the highest level of education needed in this field.
In fact, our principal landscape architect and owner, Eric Buck, has a B.S. in Landscape Architecture as well as a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture from the University of Connecticut. Buck is constantly inspired by the changing seasons of New Hampshire which play a role in all of his designs. His Ornamental Horticulture background also supports the way he works with the elements that are already found within an outdoor space.
Experience in Both Small and Large Projects
Our licensed landscape architects have experience in planning large public outdoor spaces, such as parks, campuses, gardens, cemeteries, commercial centers, resorts, transportation facilities, and waterfront developments.
This is not to say that we also aren’t familiar with smaller residential projects. Our staff has extensive experience in working with homeowners to create a beautiful yard that they will love for years to come.

Swimming pools – We are equally familiar with small residence projects. From vinyl and concrete to paver stones and fiberglass, we can do it all!
Gardens designed for New England weather – We’ll provide consultation to help you decide which types of plants will thrive in your new green space. Some of the gardens that we can lay down for you include organic gardens, medicinal gardens, terrace gardens, and so much more.
Supported by Strategic Project Managers
To make sure that projects run smoothly starting from the planning phase to the final product, we’ll tap into the brains of our amazing project managers.
We use a tried and true 5-step process to guarantee every project is a success. We’ll be with you every step of the way starting with programming, inventory and analysis all the way through concept design and final project management. Additionally, our project managers are extremely familiar with New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts, so they know how to secure the right permits and what state and local codes need to be followed.
Trusted Partnership with Qualified Landscape Construction Contractors
During the process, we’ll partner with landscape construction contractors to bring your design to life! For the physical groundwork, we’ll bring in our trusted contractors; they have all been vetted to ensure nothing short of excellence and many of them have worked with us for years. No matter the space, they have both the knowledge and skill set to get the job done and are experienced in:
Hardscapes: Materials such as wood fencing, stone, pavers, and plastics, are referred to as hardscapes. The materials used in hardscapes are often used for stonework projects such as outdoor kitchens, barbecues, fireplaces, decks, and fencing. Water features such as fountains, ponds, and waterfalls are also considered hardscapes.
Softscapes: Softscapes usually refer to services and installations involving plant and other organic materials. These often include annuals, shrubs, grass, trees, and soil. Softscape services help turn landscape designs into a reality by planting and setting tree installations, flower beds and more!
