Meservey Hall Re-Design

The objective of this landscape design project at New Hampton School was to improve the circulation of foot traffic around Meservey Hall, and to give a fresh new look to the 160 year-old building. Unless you are a soldier marching, you probably don’t walk in straight lines and 90-degree turns. Pedestrian traffic always takes the path of least resistance – which means your lawn areas. In our design, we incorporated brick paver entryways with sweeping arcs to eliminate the “cow paths” that were wearing out the grass.

Aesthetically, the addition of red brick paver accents in the asphalt surface “pulled” the color off the building, blending it into its surrounding in a dimensional way. Low-maintenance plantings were included around the building to soften the hard lines and concrete surfaces. After the Meservey Hall landscape design project, the old school building looked brand new!

In addition to the school landscape design project, Terrain Planning & Design also worked with a team of engineers to solve drainage issues for this existing structure, primarily by redirecting storm water to on-site bio retention areas.
