Winchester NH Deck Design

This sleek and stylish deck was the outcome of the removal of a dysfunctional and aging existing deck. Abutting the living room of the residence, the deck provides a heavily traveled access point to the back yard. A smooth transition to the yard was most important, and not to construct an intrusive stationary object. Enough space for cooking, dining and entertaining was created by initially determining the client’s expectation of the space.

Food preparation is a central part to any outdoor space used for entertaining – but it doesn’t have to be in the middle of everything! We designed the grilling area and bar outside of the circulation areas, yet easily accessed by both chef and guest.

Having accomplished the functional use of the space, we were then able to integrate aesthetic features as well. The organic qualities of this deck shine through in the material choices – natural hardwood, polished granite, and planters for live greenery. The elegant curved woodwork made for comfortable benches and a large welcoming step to the lawn area.

By thinking everything through ahead of time, this New Hampshire deck design achieved what our client desired –  a gracious balance of woodwork and green space, inviting people to enjoy their new outdoor “room.”
